POTS and the Overwhelmed Nervous System

POTS can feel confusing.

Unpredictable.
Overwhelming.

And for many, it’s difficult to fully understand what’s happening in the body.

What POTS Can Look Like

POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) often includes:

  • rapid heart rate when standing

  • dizziness or lightheadedness

  • fatigue

  • brain fog

  • difficulty with temperature regulation

These symptoms can feel intense and disruptive.

What I’ve Come to Understand

POTS is a form of dysautonomia.

Which means the autonomic nervous system is not regulating the way it should.

This system controls:

  • heart rate

  • blood pressure

  • circulation

  • digestion

When it’s overwhelmed or dysregulated…

these systems can become unstable.

The Nervous System Connection

When the body is in a constant state of stress or has experienced prolonged strain…

regulation becomes more difficult.

The body has a harder time adapting to changes, like moving from sitting to standing.

The Bigger Picture

This is not just about the heart.

It’s about communication within the body.

And how well the system is able to respond and adjust.

Where to Begin

Support often includes:

  • nervous system regulation

  • hydration and mineral balance

  • gentle stabilization strategies

  • understanding individual triggers

And again…

testing and guidance instead of guessing.

Final Thoughts

POTS is not random.

It’s a reflection of how the body is regulating.

And when we support that regulation…

we begin to support the symptoms.
